On Wednesday, Nov. 14th, across the province ninth grade students participated in the annual Take Your Kids To Work Day. For Mr. Huntington, Mrs. Hnatiw and myself, it was an extra special occasion as we were able to bring our children to school to spend a day with the students and staff of MVB. In fact, we had six students from A.L. Fortune, Jackson, and King’s Christian helping out in a variety of classrooms. At the end of the day, they were all tired out, and they marvelled about how much “moving around” occurs in an elementary school.
Big Buddies is one of my favourite activities that takes place on a weekly basis at MVB, and having high school kids join us is merely an extension of a really great practice. We are incredibly fortunate to have so many current and former ALF students join us regularly to work with our students. Whether it is a current grade 10-12 student from ALF working with our intermediate classes or some of our gr. 3s working with the Kindies, we see kids modelling their very best qualities and creating a sense of belonging for both parties. It is the truly the grassroots of the very notion of “family” that exists within our K-12 schools in Enderby.
